Full course description

This guided tour takes place on Wednesday March 18th from 2-5pm. The D&D Building is located at 979 Third Avenue.

This course offers an immersive, guided tour of the D&D Building, the hub of New York’s interior design world for more than 50 years. The course provides firsthand exposure to the professional design marketplace. Students will explore showrooms featuring the finest examples of textiles, wallcoverings, rugs, lighting, furniture and accessories, gaining insight into how products are curated, specified, and presented to clients. Through guided discussions and independent observation, students will learn about current industry trends, trade-only resources, pricing, and the relationship between designers, suppliers and manufacturers. The course emphasizes professional etiquette, sourcing strategies, and real-world application, helping students bridge the gap between academic study and design practice in one of the world’s leading design centers

Adrienne Concra conducts the tour. She founded Adrienne Concra Design in 2000 and has created fabric collections for prominent companies including Cowtan & Tout, Jim Thompson Silks, Victoria Hagan and Scalamandre. Prior to that, she managed F. Schumacher’s creative effort as their Vice President of Design. Since 2010 Adrienne has been an adjunct professor at NYSID teaching both textiles and a variety of continuing education classes. She co-authored, Textiles for Residential and Commercial Interiors, 5th and 6th edition, Bloomsbury Publishing, Inc.

This class will meet in the lobby of the D&D building at 979 Third Avenue 15 minutes prior to class.
